Beach Warrior is a brand-new obstacle racing event to be held on the beaches of Australia, owned and operated by Surf Life Saving Australia (SLSA).
The inaugural national Beach Warrior event will be held on the Saturday of SLSA’s iconic Coolangatta Gold weekend (12-13 October 2019) and will be open to all participants 12 years and over.
CEO of Surf Life Saving Australia Adam Weir said “Beach Warrior is the kind of mass participation event that almost anyone can take part in. You might get a bit wet, but it doesn’t require participants to swim so it’s appealing to all fitness levels and abilities. This type of fun but physical event has become extremely popular with Australians and doing it on sand takes it to the next level.”
“The vision with Beach Warrior is to create a ‘portable’ community-based sporting event that can move around the country to a variety of beaches and surf lifesaving clubs and get the community moving and active. It’s a new and exciting way to participate in Surf Life Saving, specifically designed to cater for all skill levels, surf lifesavers and non-surf lifesavers alike.
“We are very excited to launch this program with our first Beach Warrior event on the Gold Coast as part of the Coolangatta Gold festivities.”
Beach Warrior was created for SLSA by Mike Porra, former Australian board paddling champion and founder of Nitro Circus Live.
Mike said “the Gold Coast race will be the most beautiful and unique obstacle race ever held in this country, set against the backdrop of the magnificent Coolangatta and Kirra beaches.”
The race will feature 25 challenging but fun obstacles over a four kilometre course that takes competitors through parkland, sand and rocks making for the most memorable obstacle race in Australia.
